Rough Cut – Teacher Feedback

Here is the feedback given and discussed with us from both Mr Dunford and Mr Gilbert and explains aspects that they felt worked well and also constructive criticism on how to further improve the music video. We aim to carefully consider all criticism given to us as well as other opinions from friends and family in order to incorporate all ideas into the final edit of our project.

Music Video Rough Cut Feedback

We sent a copy of the rough cut to our actress (my sister, Hannah Lawrence) in order to gain some feedback and constructive criticism. Here is the message I (George) received once she had watched it:

All of the points made are very valid and so will be amended before posting the final cut of our music video. Over the next couple of weeks we will also be sharing this rough cut with other family members and friends in case they pick up on something that we may have missed.

Today’s weather

Today we are going to London in order to film a vast majority of our video. As our London locations are outside the weather is extremely important. The ideal situation is a clear day with no rain and as little clouds as possible. Due to the time of year we are aware that it will be pretty cold and so to prepare, we are each taking a big coat including our artist so that she can stay warm in between takes. Here is the weather forecast for today:

This is the ideal forecast that we were hoping for and so can continue to carry out any final preparations for our filming this evening.

Costume – Main Female Artist

We have already researched and explored the female fashion and style from the 1920’s and so this post is to display the final costume choices we have made for our artist. Such a luxurious and glamorous time period is hard to get a costume for as any fancy dress costumes are too cheap and not produced to a high enough quality to look authentic but any well produced garments in a 1920’s style are unbelievably expensive.

Once we agreed on the style of costume we was looking for, and had cast my sister as the artist, we had a great moment that we realised my sister has the perfect outfit that has never yet been worn. Originally as an outfit for a wedding, this dress was relatively expensive and way out of our budget if we was to ever buy a dress for this music video, but it is perfect. Although longer than we had initially wanted, I now prefer this length to our original idea as this adds a sense of formality and will flow better when being performed in. it has idealistic embellished detail in the exact 1920’s style that we was after and as it is a dress belonging to my sister, it fits our artist perfectly.

She will be wearing a pair of nude coloured heels, however, these are insignificant as the dress covers them anyway. We have borrowed a ring from a family member that will also be worn.

Communication

I have been in regular contact with my sister regarding the music video as she has been cast as our main artist. Through various FaceTime discussions we have spoken about lip-syncing techniques, the costume, performance expectations, final preparations for the day and any accessories she might have that we could use such as a ring and appropriate shoes. I have also provided her with the link to our blog and so she has been regularly checking to see any advancements in our ideas and work so that she is fully informed when it comes to the our filming days. Screen Shot 2013-11-14 at 20.42.47 Screen Shot 2013-11-14 at 20.45.07 Screen Shot 2013-11-14 at 20.45.46

London Route Plan

Soon we will be travelling up to London to film the outdoor London scenes of our music video. By using our previous trip up to London to get some test shots as a guide, we have planned the route we will take in order to get to all of our locations.

  1. Firstly, we will take the fast c2c service train from Upminster station as it is the closest train station from my (George) house as that is our meeting place to complete any final preparations before we leave. We will get off at Fenchurch Street station. This route takes approximately 45 minutes.
  2. We will then walk to Tower Hill tube station which is just around the corner, a rough 2 minute journey.
  3. Then, we will get on the District line westbound, until we reach Embankment. This is the first location where we will be filming and the exact location is also about a 2 minute walk from the station.
  4. Once finished at Embankment, we will take the Northern Line, Northbound to Leicester Square tube station.
  5. At which point, we will take the Piccadilly Line Westbound, one stop to Piccadilly Circus, here our filming location is just outside the exit of the station.
  6. A 5 minute walk around the corner will lead us to Her Majesty’s Theatre. This is where we will film the exterior shots of our theatre sequence. The interior of which we will be filming on the Sunday.
  7. Upon returning to Piccadilly tube station, we will catch a further Piccadilly service line tube Westbound to Knightsbridge, our final filming location up London. We are filming this sequence outside Harrods which is just next to the tube stations exit.
  8. Once we are satisfied that we have shot all of the footage we had planned we will make our way back home by the same route we took to get to Knightsbridge.

Props

We carefully watched our Animatic video and made notes on the various props we had featured within our music video. Here is a list of the props that we made on our iPhones and will be the props that we now need to carefully source with an almost non-existent budget:

You can see that using Apples newly updated Reminders app it is possible to make lists and keep on track with the tasks you have completed. It is a quick and easy way to refer to the props that we need to get. From this screenshot, it is possible to vividly identify that our microphone prop has been sourced and therefore is checked off of our list. This has been mentioned in a previous blog post.
In order to check off a few more items from our list we decided that a few local charity shops could be good places to locate the props we want as they are generally priced reasonably and often contain older objects which could be ideal for our art-deco theme:

Unfortunately the trip was not as successful as we had first anticipated as the shops contained very few items that were from the Art Deco period. Due to this slight disappointment we have planned another trip to Romford as it is a historical market town and so holds many cheap market stalls as well as various high street charity shops and so we feel as though our chances of obtaining the remainder of our props are significantly higher than our previous trip.
